We’re excited to share our latest research contribution, published in the IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement Journal 📚:
🔬 "Silicon photonic sensors, embedded in composite tools, for the optimization of composite aerostructure production"

This work demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of silicon photonic sensors directly into composite manufacturing tools used in the aerospace sector, enabling real-time monitoring of temperature, pressure, and resin curing conditions under high-pressure and high-temperature environments. The results show outstanding sensor performance and pave the way for smarter, more efficient production of composite aerostructures.
📍 The publication is based on outcomes from the EU-funded SEER Project (2020–2023), coordinated by PCRL, which developed a fully embedded multi-sensor system for smart self-monitoring composite tools — combining photonics, advanced manufacturing, and data-driven process optimization.
